CARSON UPGRADES UTILITY SYSTEM IN HOUSING

Residents in eight housing areas will see their utility lines transformed from above ground to underground thanks to $8 million in federal stimulus dollars designated to Fort Carson. The upgrades are targeting for the older housing areas of Shoshoni, Sioux, Apache, Cheyenne, Choctaw, Arapahoe, and West Ute Villages.  The primary impact to our residents will be traffic detours during trench work and a several hour power outage when the old system is switched with the new system.  The work for these Villages will begin June, 2010 and is expected to continue until July, 2011 the estimated time of completion for the project. If you have any questions abotu the utility upgrade project, please call 526-1903.

Fort Carson Family Housing has received Army funding to support continued growth at Fort Carson.  As of 21 April we expect to be able to start construction on 308 new homes.  Chippewa will be a new village, between gate 1 and the PX, with 180 homes for junior enlisted families.  We will also expand Iroquois village, adding another 120 duplex homes for senior enlisted and junior officer families.  Finally, 8 homes for field grade officers will go up between upper and lower Ute villages.  We will break ground at Chippewa in late April, and finish up all construction in the spring of 2013.

Good news for about 800 residents: the Army funding will also allow installation of air conditioning in all remaining homes at Fort Carson.  We expect to begin installations in May, with junior enlisted homes, and finish with the senior officers five months later.

Also included in the projects for this summer will be much needed road and concrete repairs.
